A Grade D fire alarm

A Grade D fire alarm system typically consists of interconnected smoke/heat alarms and is commonly installed in residential properties. It is essential to conduct a comprehensive fire alarm system test every six months, ensuring it is performed by a qualified individual. The fire alarm test should adhere to the guidelines specified in BS5839 part 1 section 6. Once the test is successfully conducted, the results should be recorded in the log book. Following the completion of your fire alarm testing, you will be provided with a fire alarm certificate as evidence of the system's proper functioning and compliance.

IN GRADE D THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF COVERAGE:

LD2

LD2 coverage is awarded to a property that has hard-wired mains interlinked alarms in every room, hallway, lounge, and kitchen.

LD3

LD3 coverage is awarded to a property that has hard-wired mains interlinked alarms in, hallway, lounge, and kitchen.

TESTS CARRIED OUT

All smoke and heat detectors will be tested for functionality. Bells and sounders will be operated and assessed to ensure that they provide sufficient sound levels in all areas. Fire panels, their batteries and all cable joints where accessible will be checked for integrity and functionality.

TEST RESULTS

Asset Register (inventory of all items tested, together with locations)

Detailed instructions to client regarding interim testing requirements and method of achieving them)
Log Book (document for client to record all interim routine tests and any remedial actions required and subsequently taken)

FIXED WIRE TESTING ON FIRE ALARM EQUIPMENT

The wiring of your fire alarm system should also be tested. This can be done every 5 years with the electrical certificate. The electrical installation condition report must be done in line with BS7671.
